Resistible Force/Movable Object

     How to Motivate Project Teams

Presentation to the Maine Chapter, Project Management Institute

Thursday, April 19, 2012 6:15-7:30 p.m.

Portland Country Club, Route 88, Falmouth

When an irresistible force meets an immovable object, what happens? Logically, nothing happens, because the grand old saying describes an impossible gridlock.

Applied to Project Management, it turns out the Project Manager too often finds himself/herself quite resistible -- frustrated in the effort to move a distracted, noncommittal team toward a successful outcome. At the same time, the team members can seem to be quite movable, in their switching off to various other commitments, to the detriment of the project.

What is the Project Manager to do? In this presentation, Jim Milliken breaks down the art and science of project leadership into the process and communication activities the Project Manager needs to identify, practice and perfect in order to achieve consistent success at this challenging profession.

Members of the PMI Maine audience will be asked to review their personal experiences with Project situations and events to determine causes and effects. The solutions to issues of participation and motivation will be examined from a practical, behavioral point of view in an interactive hour of idea sharing and discussion.
